How These Rates Are Calculated

  1. Take the international gold price in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 g).
  2. Convert it to rupees with the USD/PKR reference rate.
  3. Get the price per tola: multiply the price per gram by 11.6638 (the grams in one tola).
  4. Lower karats are priced by purity: 22K = 22/24 (91.7%), 21K = 21/24 (87.5%), 18K = 18/24 (75%).

Worked example: at $4,000/oz and Rs 277 per dollar, 24K gold ≈ 4,000 × 277 ÷ 31.1035 × 11.6638 ≈ Rs 415,500 per tola before any local premium or making charges.

Jewellery prices also include making charges and, when you sell, a deduction. Always ask for the gold value and making charges separately.

Gold Rate FAQ

Why is the sarafa rate different from this estimate?
City sarafa associations announce their own daily rates. These follow the international price and the dollar rate but also reflect local demand, import costs and the open-market dollar, so they can sit above or below the international-parity value shown here.
How many grams are in one tola?
One tola is 11.6638 grams. 10 grams is about 0.857 tola.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 21K gold?
Karat measures purity out of 24 parts. 24K is about 99.9% gold, 22K is 91.7%, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%. Most jewellery in Pakistan is 21K or 22K because pure 24K is too soft for daily wear.
Are making charges included in these prices?
No. The table shows metal value only. Making charges are added by the jeweller and vary by design, so ask for them as a separate line on your receipt.
How often do the numbers update?
Gold and silver spot prices refresh every few minutes while the page is open. The USD/PKR reference rate is updated by the data provider about once a day. The time of the latest update is shown above the table.
Is the USD rate here the open market rate?
No. It is a mid-market reference rate. Open-market exchange companies quote separate buying and selling prices that are usually close to it but not identical.
